NEXT HANDICAP - 2024 Season starts Spring 2024
Meet up at Club House at 7pm
About the handicap

The inaugural race was held in April 1984 and has been running ever since. It runs for six months in the summer April to September and the last race is followed by a get together, usually a meal, and the presentation of the "The Docherty Shield and now the Russ Elder Shield".

The race is over a 3k, one lap course around Sudbury Court/Vale Farm and is held on the closest Tuesday to the 16th of the month at 7:15pm.

The concept of the handicap is to allow even the slowest of runners the opportunity of crossing the finish post first (a bottle of wine for the winner). Slow runners starting first with the faster ones at staggered intervals, hence the handicap. In theory all should cross the line en-masse.

Briefly, there is a scoring system relating to your position in the evening's race plus bonus points for running within 10% of your personal best. Of the six races the best four results are added to a league table to give an overall winner in September.

Recent Winners

The last three winners of the much sought after Russ Elder Shield were John Walerych (2021), Gavin Imrie (2022) and Trish Edwards (2023).  Who will be victorious in 2024?
