Captain's Update - January 2017

Traditionally, with races a little thin on the ground,January's Log is a little on the short side, and this one (you'll be pleased to hear!) will be no exception. Still, do have a couple of races to report on, Serpentine's New Year's Day 10k. and the Fred Hughes 10 at St.Albans, in addition to our regular Parkrun jaunts, so, as they say, on with the show!

Starting with Parkrun, nine hardy souls shrugged off their New Year's Eve celebrations to get 2017 off to a flying start, tackling four events with Kay 'doubling up' at South Oxhey and Cassiobury Park. No particularly exotic venues visited this month, though, of note, Asa ran her last Parkrun on these shores (for a while at least!) at Weymouth on the 7th before heading off to Spain (au revoir Asa, and enjoy your travels), whilst it was good to see Graham back in something like' full stride', clocking an impressive 19.37 at the Darlington South run on the 28th. Excluding the New Year's Day event, for the record, Gladstone Park's four runs for the month saw a very healthy average turnout of 182.

On the 'competitive' front meanwhile, I put in my usual appearance at Hyde Park on the 1st (with Bev once again supervising the drinks station), whilst five members made it out to Hertfordshire for the Fred Hughes 10 on the 22nd, Ade leading our quintet home in a very respectable 1.26.48, just ahead of Victor. In fact we managed some pretty impressive 'packing', the 'famous five' finishing within ten minutes of each other.

Away from the athletic action, a further meeting was held at St.Luke's on the 19th to discuss this year's Run Wembley event, and we now have the entry forms for distribution. As ever, it'll be a case of 'all hands to the pump' on May 14th, so any runners, or more particularly helpers/marshals (family, friends etc.) you can recruit the better.

Finally this month, one or two more dates for your 'social calendars':

Tuesday 18th April: Club AGM.

Saturday 22nd April: St.Luke's Quiz Night.

Saturday 29th April: Quiz Night at the Club.

If you're interested in joining our third 'tilt' at St. Luke's event (cost £17 a head inc. refreshments) please let me know ASAP as I hope to put in a team around the start of March (believe last year's Spring quiz sold out about six weeks in advance!).

Well, think that's about it for this time.

Next Month: The Watford Half Marathon, Harrow Hill 10k. and much, much more....
